The Suicide Of Albert Yang: Grey Space

Why are the laws of physics what they are?

Why is gravity so weak? Why do higher dimensions not exist on the macro level? Why is there a set speed of light? As a kid I used to get scolded a lot, doing what all kids do and peskily asking "why" over and over again in response to every single thing I was told. Despite the trying of both myself and the adults around me I never was able to stop thinking about why, that was until three days ago.

Mankind is currently at war with an alien race living underneath the Martian surface. They're unlike anything we have ever dreamed of. They have no mothership, no nukes, they never even invented gunpowder. We didn't even notice them at first, for God's sake how could we? They only sent one individual, who the news is calling "The Alchemist".

I won't go too much into them, I'm sure whoever ends up finding this messily written note will have seen the news. To be simple, what the Alchemist does is essential a form of reality manipulation. Not in our reality, but by going into a lower dimensional area called "Grey Space" the Alchemist can rewrite the universal laws of physics due to the lack of observers within Grey Space. Observers in this sense refer to basically anything that can be affected by a force. Grey Space is pretty much empty. Therefore it is here where the Alchemist takes materials from our dimension and uses the inherently lawless realm to forge universal laws of their own. Doing this allows them to construct any sort of structure or device and bring it back into our reality. Everything made by the Martian Alchemist so far has been terrifying, yet beautiful. It's like the way math is beautiful. Perfect objects from Plato's realm of forms have been brought into existence by an alien magician.

Scientists all around the world are doing their best to replicate the Alchemist's process. We've learned a lot and will probably be able to develop an Alchemist of our own. Me and my team, we made a discovery about Grey Space. The Alchemist is producing a lot more energy than they're using. To avoid killing themselves during a transmutation they only take so much energy back with them into our dimensional plane. The leftover energy is left within Grey Space where it acts similarly to Dark Energy due to differences in its dimensional structure. Yet we realized that Dark Energy, just like everything else, is barely detectable within Grey Space. So where is it going? Yesterday I unfortunately found the answer.

Grey Space is an empty void with close to absolutely nothing in it. Anything that finds itself in Grey Space becomes unstable and risks falling apart. Because of this, there's a desire to leave Grey Space and enter more stable areas known as Goldilocks Space.

Higher dimensional trash finds itself pooling within the more stable Goldilocks Spaces where it increases the potential for observers. Those observers enforce the physical laws of Goldilocks Space which allow for the development of more observers and if the dimension is unlucky, intelligent life. Because even if just one intelligent civilization within it develops a robust understanding of Alchemy, singular individuals will be able to remove large chunks of material from the dimension. After a few million years, the Goldilocks Space is doomed to fall into Grey Space.

The only hope for intelligent life to survive this collapse is for an Alchemist to take the dimensions remaining material with them into a lower dimensional area and create a new universe fine-tuned for their existence, something like the universe we live in. Why are the laws of physics what they are? Because the Alchemist said so.

Yet our existence within this universe is an inherent threat to the master civilization that constructed it. Even if just a single one of us learns to replicate the alchemic process, we hold the potential to destroy everything. So it makes sense to limit us in small ways. Reduce the speed of light, make it so cosmic radiation causes cancer in our bodies, make sure there are large distances between habitual worlds, etc... We're being held down, kept relatively confined to a small area. Yet the Martians have made a key, and have already given us the tools to make a key of our own. If these keys were to be discovered by the wardens, punishment would be the expected outcome.

We have no way of knowing how these Archons see our reality. Whatever they see it must be more complicated than anything our pathetic tiny minds can comprehend. I don't know if I'm making sense, I don't know if I'm paranoid, I'm just scared. Maybe their dimension has already fallen into Grey Space and they live among us, or maybe they've been waiting for a precise moment in this dimension's life span to begin their great migration. What I do know is that if I were them, If my only hope of salvation was being threatened by bugs like us, I would eradicate them from existence. In my feverish paranoia, I would annihilate everything on this half of the Milky Way.

More terrifying, what if we're just a trial run? An experiment to test some element of an alchemically constructed universe. In this scenario we're lower than bugs, we are unwanted outcomes and we have ruined the entire transmutation. The only thing to do is to empty the beaker and try again.

I don't want to live in a world like this. I no longer give a shit about the Martians, I pity them. Surely some Martian scientist has also figured this out, the only person in the solar system who could possibly understand how I feel right now. I will never meet them, but tonight I'm going to drink like they're right here beside me. I'm going to smoke, jerk off, cry, and watch the sunrise one last time. Whoever finds this note, I advise you to do the same. My distant Martian brother, I hope to see you in some sort of afterlife. Do you think even bugs like us, might have souls?
